Timber & Tide Explorers

Where Curiosity Meets Nature

A Place to Grow, Wonder, and Belong

At Timber & Tide Explorers, children learn through curiosity, movement, and meaningful time outdoors. Our outdoor program for children ages 3-12 offers a balance of freedom and clear safety expectations that supports exploration, creativity, and social connection. Through child-led play and hands-on experiences, children develop confidence, resilience, and a deeper understanding of the world around them. Each day begins in our designated gathering space, where children connect before heading out to explore. Play, movement, and interaction with the world around us shape our day.

• Opportunities to lead, collaborate, and support one another
Small Groups, Strong BondsSmall group sizes help participants feel known, valued, and included.

Our Approach

Child-Led. Nature-Rich. Wonder-Fueled.Play-Based Learning
Play-based learning recognizes that children learn best when they are actively engaged, curious, and involved in meaningful experiences. Through play, children practice problem-solving, communication, decision-making, and self-regulation in ways that feel natural and motivating. Rather than following a set outcome, play allows learning to emerge through exploration, experimentation, and interaction with the world around them.
Nature Immersion
Regular time outdoors supports children's physical well being by offering space for movement, sensory input, and time spent in nature.
Community & Belonging
Children build relationships through shared time, cooperation, and play. Small group settings allow children to practice communication, social navigation, and a sense of belonging.

Why It Matters

Children today spend far less time outdoors than previous generations. Regular time in nature provides essential opportunities for movement, exploration, and connection that support healthy development and well-being."A child's world is fresh and new and beautiful, full of wonder and excitement." — Rachel Carson

Meet your Guide

Hi, I'm Wendy, founder and lead guide at Timber & Tide Explorers. Some of my core memories are of playing outdoors where I was free to imagine, experiment, and discover. That time outside continues to guide my work today. I believe time in nature is essential and I strive to create a space where children feel comfortable to discover and grow.I hold a degree in Early Childhood Education and am certified in Wilderness First Aid and CPR. Safety is always a priority.
